Merle O'Broham's '92 Civic EX  back to top

1992 Civic EX This is Merle O'Broham's ride, a 1992 Civic EX. He's somewhere in Illinois, but the car appears disgustingly free of rust.

Spake Merle:
"Car has 128k, automatic and the last tankful gave me 28 mpg city, back and forth to work. Needs brakework and a few trim pieces to be complete. Everything works. Just a couple cancer spots on the lower rear quarters in front of the wheel wells. "

Update Dec '05: Merle has shown faith in his wheels by recently replacing lots of worn parts (about $1,300 worth of parts)..
"Totally replaced the drive axles, hubs and bearings, and new bushings installed on the control arms. New springs since they both were cracked (!) and shocks since it's all apart (why not- they're cheap and 13 yrs old). The mechanic put new rotors and pads on the rears for me (my parts) since they were rusted on and I couldn't get the safety screws out.
I put in a new battery and new Kumho HP4 716 tires which were rated really high by TireRack customers for the price and had the alignment.
Jeez, what a difference. I can imagine this is what a new car feels like (haven't had one since '88.) Tight quiet and solid. Unbelievable. Happiness."

Update Jun '06: Merle has added to his Honda fleet, but this one's not a car. It's a Honda NX650 motorcycle.
NX-650
Merle has a Honda habit when it comes to bikes. This is his fifth. The others were, in order, a Honda-Elite 80 scooter, a CB550, a Hurricane 600, and an Interceptor 500.

Looks like Merle got a good 'un: "...bought the NX with 9600 miles, runs like new, scratches like an '88, I believe it's never been down. No chewed up engine covers, looks like all original clutch/brake levers, handlebar, signals, etc., even grips.  Needs new rubber, but I think a bargain otherwise."
