Update Nov 21/08: A reader named
John emails me to say
that his daughter's '96 Prelude has an F22B, one that ended up needing
a timing belt. The belt that came installed on the engine was not the
correct one, and apparently was too loose, resulting in the belt
eventually shredding. John tried out one of the part numbers shown at
the bottom of this page, and confirms that it does in fact work for
this engine. He also supplied more part numbers, from Dayco and
Goodyear.
As John puts it,
- [I found] a couple of sites with references to variances in
engine
blocks between imports & North American models. Specifically, to
use the "proper" timing belt likely would require a change of the water
pump (supposedly the pump gear is slightly bigger) OR to use a shorter
belt... specifically one tooth shorter, amounting to 3/8" difference in
length. I took the latter route.
This research brought me to your FAQ with the reference to "Gates part
number: T132 (also fits 1988 Dodge Caravan 2.5L)" I looked
up the '88 Caravan, checked the belt and it was exactly 1
tooth shorter. I purchased it, installed it... fit perfect (with a
bit of cursing with the extra tight fit) and the tensioner is now at
the far tight end with just enough slack to give room for installing
.... PERFECT."
