UPDATE JULY 23/08
If you have questions or problems... Sorry, but Tegger's Unofficial Helpline is closed until further notice. I used to have time for this, but not any more. My day job now commands pretty much all of my free time and it appears this will be the case for the foreseeable future. When this changes, I will remove this notice. You can still try to ask me questions, bu it may be a couple of weeks or so before I can answer them. You'll notice my Usenet participation has declined precipitously as well. That's also due to lack of time.

If you need help, I'll do what I can, but... As stated in the Disclaimer on the Home Page, I'm not myself a professional automotive technician, just a fairly experienced amateur (my official term for myself is "driveway grease monkey"). I answer all emails as fast as I can, with the best information available to me at the time. I do have professionals I can consult when necessary, but I'm not paying them and nobody's paying me, so there's a disincentive to tying up the pros' time with too many free enquiries.

Also, I have a day job and a family (and some might say I even have a life) so please be patient. It may take me a day or so to get back to you, but I will.

By the way, please make sure your Reply To address actually works. A surprising number of people have Reply To addresses so spam-effective I cannot successfully answer their messages at all. How many people in the world think I'm ignoring them? I'll never know.

If I do not know -- and cannot find out -- the answer to your questions, I will tell you, then I will give you my best-guess answer. It's my hope in all cases that I can at least help point you in the right direction, so you'll have an easier time with the professionals you will end up having to deal with. Just like you, I've had frustrating experiences with professional mechanics and garages, and situations that were perplexing and confusing. I'm hopeful I can help others avoid having similar experiences of stranded powerlessness. Education is sometimes all I can help give, but education is itself often a great equalizer. Sometimes it even puts you above the professional garage/serviceman who is lazy, careless or inept.

Comments about, and corrections to, the site are welcome as well.
