N.E Ohio Bob had some spare parts in his garage, and one day was struck by an inspiration. He shrewdly observed that 1) he had four spare camshafts, 2) tables have four legs, and 3) that people trip over coffee-table books when you leave them on the floor. It was clear what needed to be done...

Wouldn't you love one of these for your living room? Maybe your wife wouldn't, but who asked her?

Table with camshaft legs Clever of Bob to artfully place his Accord next to his creation.

The cams came from the scrap metal bin at the shop of a friend of his, who is a Honda/Acura specialist.

Being made from genuine Honda parts, you just know this table will be strong enough to take any amount of coffee-table books and beverage glasses you throw at it.

How Bob did it, in his words:

"The frame is 1''x1'' steel angle that is 1/8'' thick. It measures 18'' x34''.  I flipped the sprockets over on the cams and used big flat washers to wedge them in the corners of the frame and tightened the bolts down.

"I had to cut some 5/8'' square pieces of plywood to act as risers for the glass top.  I used some black R.T.V. sealant to glue the risers to the inside of the frame, and spray painted the frame flat black. Whole project took one easy morning's work, and cost $1.75 for the washers. Rest of the stuff I used was in my garage.

My friend is going to get a glass top for the table and is thinking of using it in his new house. We are trying to think of something to build out of the crankshafts he has. The cranks weigh about 35 pounds each, so the result would be heavy!"
